Laikipia University Joins the Rest of the World in Observing “The World Day of Remembrance of Road Crash Victims” On 20th November, 2022

The University through the Directorate of Planning and Performance Management joined National Transport and Road Safety (NTSA) and the rest of the world in observing the World Day of Remembrance of Road Crash Victims 2022.  The theme of the Day was “Act for Low Speed/Act for Low-Speed Streets” and the Slogan being “Remember. Support. Act” with Justice. The Director, Planning and Performance Management Dr. Samuel Onyuma led a team that comprised members of the Laikipia University Road Safety, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, HIV and Non Communicable Diseases Prevention, Disability Mainstreaming, National Cohesion and National Values Committees and Medical Department of the University in observing the Day. The Team attended the Sunday Church Service at St. Teresa of Avilla- Cherika. Rev. Fr. Dr. Peterson Kabugi who is also the University Chaplain led the faithful in observing one minute of silence and lighting of candles in remembrance of Road Crash Victims including our student who perished in a road accident. The Director advised users to observe road rules to mitigate on accidents and reduce deaths and injuries.  The Chair ADA Committee noted that alcohol and drug use had a strong correlation with road accidents hence members should take note and avoid use or driving while intoxicated.  The Team also had a community outreach session which was part of the University’s Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR) to sensitize the members of the community on Road Safety, Alcohol and Drug Prevention, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Disability Mainstreaming, National Cohesion and National Values. The Team also distributed fliers on the same thematic areas and over fifty (50) copies on Disability Mainstreaming registration forms to members of the community in Cherika and Karuga Centres. The ‘Bodaboda’ Riders, Road users on Nakuru-Nyahururu Highway and members of the community were very appreciative of the engagement and look forward to more CSR activities from the University.
