LUSA Officials 2024/2025 Sworn In

Laikipia University extends its congratulations to the newly elected and sworn-in Laikipia University Students Association (LUSA) officials for the 2024/2025 academic year. Rev. Fr. Dr. Peterson Kabugi, University, Chaplain administered the swearing-in ceremony.

In his address, the University Chaplain urged the new officials to adhere to the LUSA Constitution and to approach their duties with fairness and impartiality. Above all, he encouraged them to remain God-fearing in their leadership.

On behalf of Vice Chancellor Prof. Patience Mshenga, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance, and Planning, Prof. Patience Mshenga, congratulated the new officials. She expressed gratitude to the Dean of Students’ office for successfully overseeing the election and to the students for maintaining peace throughout the process. Prof. Mshenga also acknowledged the remarkable performance of the elected female officials, highlighting the challenges women face in leadership roles. She advised the new officials to prioritize God, trust in His guidance, and roll up their sleeves to begin their work. She emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with the relevant university documents and urged them to work harmoniously with university management, utilizing proper channels of communication and dialogue to address challenges. She assured the team of full support from the administration and wished them success in their leadership roles.

Prof. John Kanjogu, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research, and Student Affairs, also congratulated the new officials. He reminded them that leadership is about guiding a group towards a shared vision and that as student leaders, they serve as a bridge between students and administration. He encouraged them to work collaboratively with the administration to achieve the university's goals and mission.

Mr. Francis Wanjama, Ag. Registrar of Academic Affairs, congratulated the newly elected officials and emphasized the heavy responsibility they bear in balancing academics, student representation, and personal interests. He encouraged them to remain fair and democratic in their roles and assured them they could seek assistance from the registrar’s office whenever needed.

Ms. Beatrice Yogo, the Dean of Students, thanked the university management for facilitating a smooth, peaceful, and calm election process. She noted that the election saw the highest voter turnout ever and praised both outgoing and incoming LUSA officials for their successful civic education efforts, which contributed to the large, peaceful turnout.

In his farewell speech, outgoing Chair Mr. John Wambua Mule emphasized that leadership is about service, commitment, and responsibility. He reflected on his team’s achievements, made possible by teamwork, resilience, and support from both students and the administration. He reminded the new officials that the challenges ahead will require hard work, but encouraged them to build upon the foundation laid by his team. He expressed confidence that the future of student leadership is in capable hands and that together, they will make the university a better place for future generations.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Emanuel Kibet, the newly elected Chair of LUSA, expressed deep gratitude to his fellow students for entrusting him with the leadership role. He committed to working tirelessly to ensure the university remains a place of growth, opportunity, and excellence. He thanked the outgoing officials for their dedication and vowed to continue building upon their successes to elevate Laikipia University. He assured university management that the new leadership would work closely with them to strengthen the relationship between students and the administration. With unity, determination, and a shared vision, Mr. Kibet affirmed that Laikipia University will continue to thrive as a place where every student can succeed.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Hezron Nyamwega, Registrar of Administration and Human Capital (AHC); staff from the Directorate of Corporate Affairs led by Prof. Felicia Yieke, Director; Dr. Fred Buluma, Returning Officer; staff from the Dean of Students' office; and students.
