Laikipia University Global Engagement with International Students

On April 15, 2025, Laikipia University, in collaboration with the Commission for University Education (CUE), hosted a vibrant and impactful forum for its international postgraduate students. The event highlighted the university’s growing commitment to internationalization and global academic engagement.

The CUE delegation, led by Dr. James K. Ngugi, Assistant Commission Secretary for Research and Innovations, began the day with a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor’s office. Prof. Patience Mshenga, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, warmly welcomed them.

The day's highlight was a dynamic and interactive session that brought together international students to share their personal stories and academic experiences at Laikipia University. A recurring theme among the students’ reflections was the university’s flexibility, efficiency, and supportive learning environment, which continues to attract students from across the continent.

“The flexible classes allow me to study and work,” shared Shakira from Uganda, reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting a healthy work-study balance.

“When I got my admission, I knew—my dream had come true!” echoed Aisha, also from Uganda, capturing the hope, aspiration, and excitement that Laikipia inspires.

“I applied and got admitted within a very short time!” added Innocent from Nigeria, highlighting the university’s quick and student-friendly admissions process.

These firsthand stories, rich with authenticity, will be featured in the upcoming issue of Varsity Digest, a publication by CUE, aimed at showcasing success stories and motivating future international students to pursue their academic dreams in Kenya.

Prof. Felicia Yieke, Director of Corporate Affairs, represented Laikipia University in leading insightful discussions on the university’s academic programmes, global partnerships, and ongoing internationalization efforts. Joining the discourse were Prof. Stella Muhanji and Dr. Florence Opondo, esteemed faculty members, who shared how their global academic experiences have enriched their teaching and broadened student perspectives.

This engagement forum reaffirmed Laikipia University’s commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and globally connected academic environment. From speedy admissions to flexible learning and global exposure, Laikipia University continues to raise the bar for academic excellence.
