Laikipia University Hosts Helb to Strengthen Student Financing, Accountability, and Service Delivery

Laikipia University on 9th February 2026 hosted a delegation from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for a courtesy call and an official working visit aimed at deepening collaboration and enhancing student support services. The HELB team paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor and were formally received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. John Kanjogu.

The visit formed part of HELB’s Annual Compliance Review and a broader engagement to analyze the current status and implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HELB and Laikipia University. Central to the discussions was the reconciliation of funds, assessment of operational processes, and identification of any challenges that may affect the timely and efficient delivery of student financial services.

Through this engagement, both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement, ensuring that HELB funds are managed prudently and reach the intended beneficiaries without delay. The review of the MoU implementation provided an opportunity to align institutional practices with evolving student needs and national higher education financing policies.

Beyond institutional processes, the HELB team also handled individual student cases, including loan applications, allocations, appeals, and repayments. The two-day engagement that ended on 10th significantly benefited students by offering immediate clarification, resolving long-standing concerns, and improving access to accurate information key factors in reducing financial uncertainty and supporting academic continuity.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. John Kanjogu emphasized that financial support systems are integral to student success, noting that strong partnerships with agencies such as HELB enable the University to create a stable and supportive learning environment. He further underscored the importance of robust communication and service delivery mechanisms to ensure students receive timely assistance and guidance throughout their academic journey.

The HELB delegation commended Laikipia University for its cooperation and openness, and highlighted the value of sustained dialogue in addressing operational challenges and strengthening service efficiency.
