Health Week 2025 at Laikipia University: Re-Examining Non-Communicable Diseases, Reproductive Health, and Mental Health for Enhanced Well-Being

Laikipia University proudly hosted the Annual Health Week event from March 19th to 21st, a transformative three-day event that brought together health professionals, students, and the wider community. This event was designed to inspire change by raising awareness, promoting early disease detection, and empowering individuals to take control of their health.

The event was officially launched by Prof. Patience M. Mshenga, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance & Planning), who delivered a powerful address on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Mshenga emphasized the importance of health-focused initiatives, which play a critical role in the early detection and proper management of diseases. She also highlighted how such events are pivotal in fostering mitigation strategies and in building a healthier future, especially by addressing pressing health challenges that affect our society.

The Health Week 2025 stands as a testament to Laikipia University's ongoing commitment to advancing health education, wellness, and cross-sector collaboration. It has become a crucial platform for sharing knowledge, sparking meaningful discussions, and facilitating access to vital health services for the community.

On the second and third days of the event, participants from the Laikipia University community and beyond took full advantage of the free health services offered by our generous partners. These services, which included medical consultations, treatments, counseling, triage, and more, played a significant role in the success of the event, underscoring the value of collaboration in promoting public health.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the Health Talks speakers who shared their expertise on Day 1, shedding light on a variety of essential health topics:

  • Dr. Robina Oyiaro on Obesity
  • Dr. Dulcie Wanda on Cancer Awareness
  • Dr. Lucy Mureithi on Mental Health
  • Dr. Martin Kaggia on Low Back Pain and Arthritis
  • Dr. Ali Yonis on Cervical Cancer and Reproductive Health
  • Dr. Shehab Emad Elamir on Prostate Cancer and Its Management

These sessions sparked important discussions and offered invaluable insights into preventing and managing some of today’s most pressing health challenges. The closing ceremony was graced by the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs Prof. John Kanjogu.

At Laikipia University, we are committed to fostering a healthier tomorrow. Let us continue to prioritize our well-being and collaborate to fight against preventable diseases. A heartfelt thank you to all our partners, whose contributions helped make this event a tremendous success. Together, we are shaping a future where health is prioritized, and wellness is within everyone's reach.
