Laikipia University is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John West Lentimalei as the new Deputy Registrar for Administration and Human Capital, effective May 2025.
Mr. Lentimalei brings over nine years of robust and diverse experience in human resource management across multiple state departments to the University. His dedication to service excellence, strategic HR leadership, and institutional development makes him a valuable addition to our senior management team.
Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy at the University of Nairobi, Mr. Lentimalei holds a Master of Public Management, concentrating on Strategic Management and Public Administration, from the Korea Development Institute (KDI) in South Korea, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Community Development from Chuka University in Kenya. Furthermore, he has several professional HR qualifications and management training certificates from the Kenya School of Government and the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI), which include a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management and a Certificate in Senior Management.
Mr. Lentimalei most recently served as the Assistant Director of Human Resource Management and Development at the State Department of Internal Security and National Administration, overseeing staff discipline, recruitment, promotions, and performance management. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in strengthening HR systems in Laikipia County and established the County Human Resource Advisory Management Committee.
From 2016 to 2023, Mr. Lentimalei served as a Human Resource Officer I and later as a Senior Human Resource Officer at the State Departments for Petroleum and Energy. During his time at the State Department of Petroleum, he was appointed to lead the payroll and complement section, where his responsibilities included preparing the personnel emoluments budget, managing payroll, maintaining staff establishment, and overseeing staff planning. At the Energy State Department, he focused primarily on preparing agendas for the Human Resource Advisory Committee, managing employee leave, formulating training programs, and developing advertisements for job vacancies.
A Full Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), Mr. Lentimalei is also a dedicated lifelong learner. He has represented Kenya at various international forums and training programs, including the International Summer School on Public Policy in Nairobi (2025), the Whole of Government Approach Program (ESAMI, Tanzania), and a climate change adaptation capacity-building workshop at the Korea Environment Institute in South Korea.
