Laikipia University Shines in the 2024 Nakuru ASK Show

Laikipia University participated in the 2024 Nakuru ASK Show which ran from 3rd-7th July, 2024 in Nakuru County. The show was officially opened by Hon. Mithika Linturi, EGH, Cabinet Secretary(CS), The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development representing the President.

Laikipia University was feted for having produced champions in the Corriedale breed category for both ram and ewe and commercial layers chicken. In addition, Laikipia University produced the best boar (pig) breed. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Kibett Rotich was present to receive the champions’ trophy from the CS on behalf of Laikipia University.

This year's Nakuru ASK Show Theme was, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” and it aimed at addressing current challenges while initiating sustainable solutions for the future.

While reading the President’s speech, The CS underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing crop and livestock production, value addition to produce, promoting technology, and ensuring sustainable land use. This has led to a 43% food production increase leading to lower food prices.

Mr. Loyford Kibaara, Nakuru County Commissioner, visited Laikipia University’s tent and congratulated the institution's commitment to resource mobilization through its products like water, detergents, and other merchandise. Laikipia University also showcased it’s academic programmes and interacted with different stakeholders ranging from high school students, parents, alumni, fellow universities, business personnel among others.

The team from Laikipia University was led by Ms. CPA Sophia Wanjiru Muchiri, Director, Resource Mobilization and Investment.
