Laikipia University Hosts Two Governors at Nanyuki Ask Show

Laikipia University proudly showcased its academic excellence and community impact by hosting two high-profile leaders; H.E. Mutahi Kahiga, Governor, Nyeri County and Vice Chair of the Council of Governors, and H.E. Joshua Irungu, Governor of Laikipia County, at its exhibition stand during the Nanyuki Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, held from May 21 to 24, 2025.

The two governors were warmly received by Prof. Felicia Yieke, Director of Corporate Affairs, who provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s vision and strategic direction. She reiterated Laikipia University’s commitment to societal transformation through its mission: “To contribute to the world through Education, Research, Training, Consultancy, Innovation, Outreach, and Collaboration,” and its bold vision: "Nurture and Transform for the World."

Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who recently earned a PhD in Educational Management from Kenya Methodist University (KeMU), praised Laikipia University for offering a similar programme as well as other competitive programmes. He highlighted the university’s role in advancing academic excellence and nurturing educational leadership in Kenya. Additionally, he encouraged the university to create clear academic pathways for TVET graduates, enabling them to progress to degree-level programmes. On the agricultural front, Governor Kahiga emphasized the urgent need for county governments to invest in agricultural innovation to enhance food security and economic empowerment.

Governor Joshua Irungu, a passionate advocate for agriculture, expressed enthusiasm about the university’s agribusiness programmes and their potential to drive sustainable farming practices. He acknowledged Laikipia University's crucial role in food security research and innovation, affirming the county’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with the institution for regional development.
