The Laikipia University Alumni Association held a successful fund drive at Karura Forest on 20th October, 2024. Prof. Robert Mwebi, Registrar Academic Affairs, also one of the Laikipia University’s Alumni officially commissioned the noble event.
The walk aimed at raising funds to support needy students through the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Its attendees had a distinctive outlook going by the diversity of the cohorts from the class of 1997 to 2022.
The Laikipia University Alumni Scholarship Fund has been in operation since 2022 and has really impacted many students’ lives whose academic lives would have been jeopardised due to financial constraints.
Mr. Jesse Mwangi, the Alumni Chairperson lauded Laikipia University’s Management Board for its trust on its former students as evidenced through the employment of the alumni members to serve the community which not only shaped them scholarly but also gave them the most important tenets of human survival.
The walk had very interesting socialisation sessions where every member shared their personal experiences after graduation, their perception on the current political and socio-economic issues among others. All these activities were gelled with physical health activities and tips to keep fit as shared by Dr. Naftal Nyang’ara, Director TVET, Career Placement, Alumni and External Linkages.
The Laikipia University Alumni Association made some pertinent resolutions to make it stronger and more impactful including publicising Laikipia University to the world, lobbying, and fundraising towards the kitty by reaching out to former coursemates, and carrying out mentorship programmes to the current students.
On his part, Prof. Robert Mwebi highlighted the importance of having an endowment fund which can generate a continuous financial revolving fund.
The Laikipia University Alumni Association aims at having such activities regularly so as to make the connection stronger and continuous to positively impact the society.
