KUCCPS Address to First-Years

Laikipia University appreciates its collaboration with the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). The institution is pleased to have hosted Mr. John Parsupore, Senior Placement & Career Coordination Officer at KUCCPS on 5th September, 2024 at the Vision 2030 Hall.

The forum meant for First-Years aimed at ironing out pertinent issues revolving around career placements, and with an extension to the current education funding model. Prof. Charles Nguta, PhD, Acting Vice Chancellor officially opened the meeting by urging students to be fully dedicated to their studies so as to graduate on time. He further reiterated that  the first degree is a key to more openings, underscoring its importance.

Mr. Parsupore acquainted students with the mandate of KUCCPS which include coordination of programme placement for Government-sponsored students to the Kenyan universities and colleges; development and implementation of career guidance programmes; dissemination of information on the available programmes; collection and retention of data relating to university and college placement, among other functions.

The interactive forum had a Q&A session where students were given an opportunity to ask questions related to their career choices and the New Higher Education Financing Model,  which Prof. Robert Mwebi, PhD,  Registrar Academic Affairs in collaboration with Mr. Parsupore adequately answered.

For example:

One of the students gave out his parent’s bank account number when applying for an education loan and scholarship and thus wanted to know whether he would be able to access the funds.

Such forums are vital in familiarising students with the various academic policies touching on them while also giving them an opportunity to seek clarifications on issues unclear to them.

The event was also attended by Prof. James Ogola, PhD, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Finance & Planning, Dr. Naftal Nyang'ara, PhD, Director - TVET, Career Placement, Alumni and External Linkages, Office of the Dean Students led by the Dean, Ms. Beatrice Yogo, the Directorate of Corporate Affairs represented by Roselyn Mulefu and members of staff from the Office of the Registrar, Academic Affairs’ Office.
