Over the years, March 8th has been designated as a day where women all over the world come together to celebrate their milestones in championing their human rights and empowering themselves. The celebration of women rights and womanhood dates back to 1909 when the first Women‘s day was commemorated in New York.
This year’s theme for the International Women’s day was “Balance for Better”. Ideally, this year, women all over the world will be working towards finding balance in the fight for human rights without emphasizing on either gender. This implies that, from now henceforth the focus is to bring the men on board. Hence, men should actively be involved and engaged in empowering of women, and vice versa. We must pull together for better.
Laikipia Community through the Gender Centre celebrated the International Women’s Day in style. The following activities marked our celebrations:
- Public Lecture on Gender related topics.
- Launching of HYMA (Help Young Mothers Achieve) Day Care Centre
- Launching of ‘Adopt a Daughter’ Initiative
- Visiting of Orphans living with HIV at Talitha Kum Children’s Home in Nyahururu
We appreciate your support and participation.
