The Role of ISERC in Higher Education and Research Compliance

The Institutional Scientific Ethics Review Committee (ISERC) plays a central role in upholding ethical research standards in institutions of higher learning. As mandated by Kenya's National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), ISERC ensures:

  • Full compliance with ethical research guidelines for human and animal studies.
  • Thorough review of all research proposals before project initiation.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of approved research to ensure participant rights and safety are upheld.
  • Preparation and submission of annual compliance reports to NACOSTI.
  • Considering the risks versus the benefits in proposed studies while safeguarding confidentiality, justice, and ethical equity.

These functions are essential for building robust academic institutions that prioritize integrity in research and innovation.
