Message from the Chairperson
The department of Literary and Communication Studies is under the School of Humanities and Development Studies. The department offers the following programmes:
Communication and Media (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD level)
Kiswahili and Communication (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD level)
English and Communication (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD level)
Information Science (Bachelor’s level)
Apart from housing the programmes just mentioned, the department services the School of education where it offers courses in English language, Literature, and Kiswahili.
The department has three (3) Full Professors and two (2) Associate Professors. The department has a very strong postgraduate programme given the high calibre of its faculty. The department also boasts of high-quality graduates who are quickly absorbed by the local and international job market.
Opportunities for Graduates of our Programmes
Communication has taken a centre stage in the world that even in the new technological and innovative world, ideas and cultures have to be shared from one community to another. The programmes give our students an opportunity to be skilled media practitioners in the media houses and corporate organizations. The programmes also give our graduates opportunities to be skilled, mediators, negotiators and translators.
