Message from the Dean of Students
The Student Affairs Department is responsible for coordinating students’ non-academic welfare matters. This department is headed by the Dean of Students. It is further divided into sections for easier management. These sections are Counselling; Chaplaincy; and Sports, Games and Recreation.
Overall, the department works hand in hand with the Student Leadership (LUSA) to coordinate various student entertainment activities such as Cultural Activities, Disco and Fun Activities as well as Music and Drama. The department occasionally organizes for donations to assist needy students.
Department Mandate & Core Responsibilities
The Student Affairs Department plays a central role in supporting the daily lives, leadership structures, and administrative welfare of the entire university undergraduate and postgraduate community. Our actions focus directly on key campus workflows:
- Financial Assistance Programme: Identifying needy students to be placed on work-study, and given bursaries.
- Clubs and Associations: Registration, monitoring and regulating students’ activities to ensure smooth operations.
- Leave Management: Processing Leave out forms for students who need to be away from campus on justifiable grounds such as illness and bereavement.
- Orientation Programs: Coordinating orientation of all First years to enable them fit into university life with ease.
- Student Governance: Conducting elections for student leaders annually.
- Conduct Regulation: Enforcing rules and regulations that govern students conduct.
Our Holistic Student Welfare Operations
In every aspect of our service delivery, we are firmly guided by the University's core commitment to comprehensive campus health and balanced student growth. Furthermore, our department coordinates closely with external administrative networks and student bodies to ensure a safe, integrated environment that supports personal stability alongside your regular educational timeline.
Chaplaincy Services
It is headed by the University Chaplain and the focus is on moral and religious education, counselling and integration of truth and values. Four religious groups are allowed to conduct services that cater for spiritual growth of their members:
Counselling Services
These services promote and facilitate holistic growth of a student enabling them to make life’s adjustment with minimal risks. A team of dedicated counsellors are at hand to offer these targeted provisions:

- ▪ Group counselling
- ▪ Career counselling
- ▪ Relationship issues
- ▪ Drugs and substance abuse support
Sports and Games
This section is responsible for training, planning, organizing and administering games and sports to students and staff. Indoor games and athletics are offered both on competitive and non-competitive basis. This helps the students to keep healthy, socialize and improve on their skills. The sports officer is in charge of this section.
