Message from the Coordinator
In order to better operationalize and sustain the university’s vision for valued transformation of society, Laikipia University established the Directorate of TVET, Career Placement, Alumni and External Linkages. The different sections of the directorate perform distinct and complementary functions to support our students and community.
I
Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Institute
Laikipia University TVET Institute was established in response to the needs of the industry. This is in cognizant of TVET institutions being well placed in training a skilled and entrepreneurial workforce that Kenya needs to implement the Big Four Agenda, create wealth, and attain Vision 2030.
The University is an accredited TVET training Institute and has programmes examined by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB), and TVET Curriculum Development and Certification Council (CDACC). The Institute is committed to providing skilled artisans, craftsmen, technicians, and technologists through theory and practices by exposing students to internal and external attachments.
II
Alumni Liaison Office
Laikipia University, in recognition of alumni as key strategic partners in achieving the overall university vision and mission, established a liaison office whose mandate is to establish and maintain strong alumni engagement. By maintaining strong ties, the university is able to make use of its alumni as a linkage to facilitate internships and placements for present students, allowing them to gain real-world experience and industry exposure. Further, alumni offer mentorship to current students and assist in resource mobilization, while giving the university visibility through notable personal, community, and professional achievements.
III
Office of Career Services
The Office of Career Services (OCS) was created with an aim of providing career guidance to students on admission, throughout their student life, and assisting their transition into the world of work. To achieve this, the OCS has established key linkages with the industry where students are exposed to industry practices through attachments and internships, effectively bridging the academia-industry gap. The OCS also actively reaches out to high schools to help prospective students navigate various future career paths.
